Little Haiti is revitalizing nearly 18 acres of industrial and vacant land in
Miami's Little Haiti neighborhood to create an urban walkable campus which will
be a premier place for technology, innovation as well as entrepreneurship, art
and culture, while preserving the authentic identity of the community.
Little Haiti (MCID), a master-planned urban community is committed to
technology and sustainability as also to arts and culture. It covers an area of
18 acres in Little Haiti. It is situated just north of Wynwood which is the
Design District, and adjacent to the MiMo district, Miami, Florida. The Little Haiti Community
neighborhood that is accessible and campus-like, lets people from different
backgrounds to enjoy the high-quality life. It also assists in writing the next
chapter of history about the way we interact, play, and live together.
MCID is dedicated to bringing an innovative project that will become an
economically self-sustaining engine within one of the most vibrant regions of
Miami. It will comprise responsible businesses, entrepreneurs, innovators, and
educators. Three phases of MCID development are: The first phase involves the
assemblage, entitlement and as well as renovating existing buildings. The second
step is neighborhood activation through the lease-up of newly renovated
structures and the activation of the MCID Park (current phase). Third,
development of new structures in line to the newly approved master plan.
MCID has been working to transform existing warehouses, factories, and
buildings into unique leasable spaces for cafes, offices, galleries and
restaurants, as well as retailers as well as pop-up stores. The project team
also developed magic city, which is a charitable fund located at the Miami
Foundation. This non-profit corporation is 501(c)(3). It is a supporter of the
economic, cultural and social prosperity of Little Haiti as well as the
thousands of people living there.
In partnership with the community over the years and years, has enabled the
MCID team to understand the needs and values of the people who will take part in
and benefit from this inclusive project. MCID will provide significant community
benefits. It includes a significant contribution package that will amount to $31
million of payments to the Little Haiti Revitalization Trust, which will be
created by the City of Miami in order to support and coordinate community
revitalization efforts. The trust's priorities include affordable homeownership
and housing, education programs for the community, local small business
development as well as local workforce participation and recruitment programs,
community beautification projects and the development and maintenance of public
parks. Furthermore, the Little Haiti Revitalization Trust Fund will be overseen
and administered exclusively by and for the community.
MCID acknowledges the significance of mobility in a city like Miami and is determined to improve neighborhood connectivity through improved roads, investment in bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, and spaces for civic and public use. The creation of a 2.18-acre pedestrian promenade, the Promenade du Grand Bois, and approximately 3.8 acres of public space are part of this plan.
